Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cathedral

Welcome to the website
of the
Holy Trinity Cathedral, Kingston, Jamaica.

The history of the Cathedral told on this site is a most engaging and remarkable one, providing information on an edifice of unique architecture (byzantine) with over three thousand square feet of art work on the walls and ceiling.

The high point of the adventure is the recovery and restoration of the art work that was covered by grey paint in 1970. This unacceptable action may have resulted from inability to restore the beautiful art that had deteriorated in certain areas due to moisture and aging over decades. However, the rationale given at the time of the so-called "Restoration of the Cathedral” that covered the art in 1970 was that it was pretentious and distracting. Such an opinion did not appreciate the value for cultural patrimony, the fascinating work accomplished by the artist, Bro. Francis Schroen, SJ, back in 1911.

The history and information of the current restoration will tantalize your appetite to visit the Cathedral. We look forward to welcoming you to see for yourself one of the most beautiful churches in the Caribbean!

Rev. Msgr. Kenneth D. Richards,
Rector
